Test on Gases Evolved

During Combustion

This test procedure provides information about whether

the insulation material of the cable sheath produces

corrosive gases in the event of a fire.

Halogen components or other materials in small

quantities can be easily identified with this test, thanks

to the significant changes in pH and conductivity.

The conductivity is < 10 mS/mm.

Standards:

- IEC 60754-1 and IEC 60754-2

Test for Vertical Flame Propagation

(Single Insulated Wire or Cable)

This test method evaluates the burning behavior of a

cable sample (length: 60 cm).

The flame must self-extinguish, and burn damage

should not reach a defined measurement of the cable

sample.

Standards:

- IEC 60332-1-2

- EN 60332-1-2

Test for Vertical Flame Spread

(Bunched Wires or Cables)

This test method assesses the fire propagation of a cable

bundle (length: 360 cm).

The flames must self-extinguish, and burn damage should

not exceed a defined height.

Standards:

- IEC 60332-3-22 up to 25 Cat A-D

- EN 60332-3-22 up to 25 Cat. A-D

Pg. 3

IEC 60331-11/-21-23-25

Circuit integrity test at 750 degrees for a minimum

period of 90 minutes. The pass criteria involve

maintaining circuit integrity, with no occurrence of

short circuits or breakages.

EN 50200

A circuit integrity test is conducted at 830 degrees with

mechanical shock every 5 minutes.

PH30: 30-minute test

PH60: 60-minute test

PH90: 90-minute test

PH120: 120-minute test

EN 50200 Annex E: This test is carried out, followed by

an 850-degree flame for 15 minutes with fire and

mechanical impact, followed by another 15 minutes with

mechanical impact and water spray.

BS 6387 CWZ

Tests are conducted under different scenarios to

evaluate the cable's performance.

Category C Test: The cable is exposed to fire for 3

hours at a flame temperature of 950 degrees.

Category W Test: The cable is exposed to fire with

water spray, involving 15 minutes of fire at 650

degrees followed by 15 minutes of both fire and

water spray.

Category Z Test: The cable is exposed to fire and

mechanical shock, with a flame temperature of 950

degrees and mechanical shock for 15 minutes.

Pg. 4

Measurement of Smoke Density

This test assesses smoke development during the

burning of the cable or the impairment of visibility

caused by burning cables.

The reduction in light transparency is measured in a

standard chamber.

Standards:

- IEC 61034-1 and IEC 61034-2

- EN 61034-1 and EN 61034-2

UL 1666 with UL1424 for FPLR

Two sets of specimens, each representing a cable

construction, are to be tested. Each set should

consist of multiple 5.33 m specimen lengths of cable

fixed vertically in a 2.44 m long, 5.80 m high chamber.

The test flame is applied to the cable specimens for

30 minutes. The flame propagation height of each set

of cable specimens shall not equal or exceed 3.66 m.

The temperature of any thermocouple shall not

exceed 454.4°C.

BS 8434-2 Enhanced

The flame temperature is set at 930 degrees for 120 minutes.

The first 60 minutes involve exposure to flame and mechanical

impact, followed by an additional 60 minutes with flame,

mechanical impact, and water spray.
